Construction of the Materials & Supply Base is completed at Udokan

At the construction site of the Udokan mining and metallurgical plant, the construction of the building of the Materials and Supply Base has been completed.

According to the General Director of Baikal Mining Company, Mr. German Mironov, at present all external works at the facility have been completed, the installation of utilities and equipment is being carried out in the building, as well as a complex of finishing works.

The M&S Base is designed to store a wide range of material and technical assets (spare parts, units, consumables, fuels and lubricants, etc.). Its building performs the functions of an auxiliary facility that ensures the smooth operation of the facilities of the process plant, as well as the needs of the service center, energy and mining and transport areas.

By the end of November, the installation of water supply, power supply, electric lighting, heating and ventilation systems for the building will have been completed. The shelving shall be installed in the premises.

Also, by the end of November, it is planned to complete works on the installation and connection of external MEP utilities.

Baikal Mining Company is a part of the diversified USM group of companies (founded by A.B. Usmanov), and the project operator for developing the Udokan copper deposit.

Today, the Udokan copper deposit, located in Kalarsky district of the Trans-Baikal Territory, is the third largest undeveloped deposit in the world.

Processing within the first stage of the mining and metallurgical plant will amount to 12 million tons of copper ore per year. The company shall produce cathode copper and sulphide concentrate.

Upon reaching the full pace, jobs will be provided for up to 5 thousand people and up to 20 thousand people in the related industries. The activities of the Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant shall provide a contribution of up to 10% GRP of the Trans-Baikal Territory.
